On 8 October 2026, around 50 participants from the railway, satellite, and research communities gathered at Hitachi Rail in Vélizy for the S5LECT Final Event.
🌐 The event covered key topics for the future of railway communications, including FRMCS, satellite communications, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and European initiatives such as IRIS². Participants also discovered the project’s main results, including field trials and laboratory tests conducted at Hitachi Rail’s laboratory.
🛰️ Led by SNCF Réseau, S5LECT has demonstrated how satellite communications can complement terrestrial networks and support more resilient, secure and connected railway operations. The project has also confirmed the relevance of satellite technologies as a key enabler for the future evolution of FRMCS and railway communications.
👏 A big thank you to EUSPA for its support, to Hitachi Rail for hosting the event, and to all speakers and participants for the valuable discussions.
Special thanks to all consortium partners for their commitment and collaboration throughout the project: SNCF Réseau, Hitachi Rail, CEIT Centro Tecnológico, Institut de Recherche Technologique RAILENIUM, Université Gustave Eiffel and RadioLabs. 🙏
🚀 Although the project has reached its end, the work continues. The results provide a solid basis for further developing and validating satellite-enabled services for future railway communication systems.
